Constantan is an alloy of nickel (about 40%), copper (about 60%) and manganese (2%).
Constantan has a silver and yellow color. Melting Point - 1260ºC, density - 8.9 g/cm3, thermal expansion coefficient is 14h10 -61/ºC, it has a constant electrical resistance, high thermoelectric power.
This material is very ductile due to nickel in its composition, it lends itself well to machining, soldering and welding, stamping, corrosion resistant, and resistant to high temperature, in cold state is not influenced by low concentrated acid environments, resistant to ammonia vapors, except steam heated to 200-500ºC.
 
Constantan exists in three types of rolled products: in form of wire, strip and circle.
Constantan wire is manufactured according to GOST1790-77, which covers wire used for thermocouples production and GOST5307-77, which regulates manufacturing of cold-drawn wire of circular cross section used for electrical purposes.
Constantan wire is available in diameter from 0.1 mm to 10.0 mm in hard and soft state.
Constantan strip is made according to GOST5189-75, which defines conditions for manufacturing cold-rolled constantan strips for industrial applications as a material of high electrical resistance.
The thickness of constantan strip ranges from 0.1 mm to 5.0 mm, width - 10.0 mm to 300.0 mm.
Strip may be of soft and hard state. By accuracy of manufacturing: normal accuracy in thickness, normal accuracy in width; normal accuracy in thickness and increased accuracy in width; increased accuracy in thickness and normal accuracy in width; increased accuracy in thickness and increased accuracy in width.
